Who We Are

Fireside Ministries is a local, faith-based, non-profit organization that exists to restore people and places, and has an intentional mission to aid at-risk families in the neighborhood of Harrisburg in Augusta, Georgia. Through means of prevention and intervention, we seek to stabilize and strengthen the family, and as a result, stabilize and strengthen the community of Harrisburg and Augusta.

History

Fireside Ministries was founded in 1992 by Phin & Jan Hitchcock. After receiving a unique calling to serve Augusta’s urban community, Phin closed his nursery business and put down new roots as an agricultural evangelist, planting gardens in Augusta’s public housing and sharing the message of Christ.

Since then, Fireside Ministries' outreach has grown to include: jobs-skill training; financial and career counseling with at-risk families, sponsorship of a Suzuki violin program to enhance academic achievement for children; serving the homeless with ministry partner Kingdom Here; coordinating volunteer groups in renovation projects at Heritage Academy and throughout the Harrisburg community in partnership with Turn Back the Block Initiative; and developing neighborhood gardens around the CSRA to build relationships and community.
